AA Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are Monday evenings at the church for ongoing support to continue recovery from addiction. top of page Al-Anon Al-Anon meetings are Monday evenings at the church to support families and close friends of those recovering from addiction. top of page Men's Bible and Biscuit Men's Bible and Biscuit meets Tuesday mornings for a southern country breakfast, fellowship and Bible study lasting from 8 AM to 9:15 AM. top of page Blood Drive CLC participates in a community blood drive. Several churches in the Summerfield area work with the Red Cross to organize the blood drive. Usually it is held on a Monday from 2:30 - 6:30 PM, and rotates from member churches on a quarterly basis. top of page Book Club The Book Club is a fun and focused book group that reads and discusses a wide variety of books. We meet monthly in each other's home. All book lovers are invited! top of page Confirmation Confirmation is a process of faith formation for young people. The youth will learn to discern God's will in their lives, are empowered to become dynamic witnesses for Jesus Christ, and to become active, voting, and contributing members of the church. The process is an 18 month course of study in which students study Holy Scripture, family relationships, the worship structure of the church and Luther's Small Catechism. Although confirmation is voluntary, the church places emphasis on the experience. Typically students are required to meet every other week, participate in on-line posting/discussion, complete a mission project, attend Sunday School, participate in youth group activities, attend worship services regularly, serve as worship assistants and lectors, complete an intensive one-week summer camp experience with youth from other churches, and volunteer in the community. Students begin study in April and are confirmed in October the following year. They are required to memorize the Apostles' Creed, the Ten Commandments, the 23rd Psalm, John 3:16, the Lord's Prayer, and the books of the Bible. The confirmation ceremony is a major church event in which confirmands are introduced to the church family, welcomed as members, and participate in a service of Affirmation of Baptism. Confirmation is open to youth who are 12 years old or who have completed the fifth grade. Confirmation is one of the most important ministries of Community Lutheran Church, a mission the pastor encourages. For information and details, contact the pastor. top of page Eucharistic Ministry Eucharistic Ministry is the ministry of bringing Holy Communion to those in special circumstances. When our congregation gathers for the celebration of Holy Communion, we hear again the story of God's mighty acts and the love shown to us in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. With thanksgiving, we remember that "�in the night in which he was betrayed, Jesus took bread and gave thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples saying 'take and eat, this is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.' Again after supper, Jesus took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying, 'this cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.'" Not everyone can gather at Community Lutheran Church to receive this gift of the Holy Spirit. Some are in special circumstances. Eucharistic Ministers bring the bread of life and the cup of blessing to those at home or in a hospital. Several members of our congregation are Eucharistic Ministers. Please call the church office if you would like to have a Eucharistic Minister visit. top of page Faith Formation CLC offers full Sunday Faith formation classes for all ages with competent teachers. The Adult Bible Study class remains the lodestar of adult faith formation. The Confirmation Class is an 18-month course leading to adult church membership. New Member classes are offered each quarter, as are First Holy Communion classes for children of all ages. top of page Fellowship The Fellowship Committee plans and hosts events and celebrations for the congregation. These fun events give members the opportunity to know each other better in a social setting. Covered dish luncheons are one of our favorite fellowship activities. We also host picnics at Bur-Mill Park, plan annual homecoming/anniversary events, and recently initiated our first annual apple baking cook-off. We celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day with gifts to the mothers and fathers. There is a Chili Cook-Off normally held in January. More ideas are being planned. top of page Girl Scouts Community Lutheran Church is host to three Girl Scouts troops, who enjoy the use of the spacious Fellowship Hall, kitchen, and classrooms for meetings. Girls also use the church for "lock-in" sleepovers, events and ceremonies, and outdoor adventures on the church grounds. The Girl Scouts influence also spreads throughout the community with the many service projects they organize here. top of page Music The music ministry of CLC blends church classics and modern music featuring the hymnody of the church, inspiration songs and sacred compositions. The music ministry of the church is a wonderful balance of many instruments and voices, led by a choir director who plans anthems and coordinates local and guest musicians. Fifteen talented voices rehearsing weekly perform regularly. The church employs a talented Music Director and has accomplished musicians. top of page PEP (People Enjoying People) This is a great way to get to know fellow church members in a social setting. Groups of 5-6 couples are formed randomly and meet once a month. Every six months there is a regrouping of members and a chance to have new people to sign up. top of page Tabitha Ministries CLC members serve Tabitha Ministry; a local halfway house for Christian women released from prison, by donating food, paper products, and gently used clothing. Members also volunteer at Tabitha's Closet, a resale shop supporting Tabitha Ministry. top of page VBS (Vacation Bible School) Vacation Bible School is held annually each summer. It is five consecutive days (Sunday through Thursday) of Bible lessons presented in a fun and exciting environment. Kids participate in songs, skits, games, crafts and small group activities. All ages are welcome. There are activities for Middle School and High School youth and separate classes for adults during the VBS times. Visitors are always welcomed. A special program for parents is usually presented on the last day of VBS, as well as the following Sunday morning during the worship services. Please call the church for exact dates and times. top of page Wednesday Senior Moments This ministry serves seniors in the community by offering fun and a hot meal on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10 AM - 1 PM. top of page Women of Community The Women of Community meet twice a month on Tuesdays from 10 AM - 12 PM for Bible Study and service. The first Tuesday of the month is the date for serving at Tabitha's Closet, a resale shop benefiting Tabitha's Ministry (a half way house for Christian women released from prison). The third Tuesday of the month and is dedicated to Bible study. The group uses the Bible study appearing monthly in "Lutheran Woman Today". top of page Youth The members of CLC's youth group comprise one of the most exciting ministries of the church. Meeting every other Sunday, the youth represent the church of today, not the church of the future. They conduct periodic Sunday Worship services; engage in regular service ministries as well as social events and the CLC youth ministry program is well balanced schedule of witness teachings, community building and proclamation. Youth led, youth sponsored and staffed, CLC's youth group is a bright light in the faith journey of this family. top of page |
